Why You Should Read "Pregnancy Your Way"?
At long last, after three years of work, our book Pregnancy Your Way is published and available on Amazon. Why do we think this is worth celebrating?
On Amazon, there are hundreds of books about pregnancy. What makes our book so different? Over the past 30 years, the practice of obstetrics has changed from a one-on-one trusting relationship between a physician and patient to a systems process with a “team” of various caregivers monitoring pregnant women in their prenatal, delivery, and postpartum time. Corporate medicine has destroyed the working relationship between a physician and patient. Nowhere is this relationship more important for survival than in pregnancy.
It is no mystery why the U.S. maternal mortality rate is higher than any other developed nation. Some of you may be aware of ProPublica’s article on Lauren, a NICU nurse who died after the delivery of her baby. The CDC says as many as
80 percent of these maternal mortalities are preventable. So why are women still dying in such large numbers in the U.S.?
Dr. Lindemann had no maternal mortalities because he saw his patients every time they came to his office. He didn’t just stick his head in the door while someone else entered data into the electronic medical record. He sat down and talked to his patients. If his patients needed to be seen more often than insurances would cover, he saw them anyway. As often as necessary. Plus his patients could reach him 24/7 if they needed to talk to him.
And he was there for deliveries. No doc-on-deck cycling through the labor room every 8 or 12 hours, with laboring women being cared for by doctors they may have never seen before.
Our book is for women everywhere to be able to know how they can work with their obstetrician to make choices for a “safe and happy” birth. Patient choice is often lost in our current healthcare system. In part, this happens because patients do not have the information they need to participate in the kinds of decisions their doctors make about their pregnancy. This book provides women with what they need to know to become a participant in the discussion of their care. It’s not intended to be a substitute for the care of their obstetrician, but rather a source of information to help women weigh the pros and cons of various choices they will be faced with during their pregnancy and participating in those choices with their doctor.
As one reader said:
This excellent book is easy to read and understand. Wonderful ACTUAL real life experiences of patients and the many different scenarios you may encounter during your pregnancy from an OB who delivered over 6000 babies, with ZERO mortalities. An honest and factual must read for all new prospective parents, grandparents and those that love them.
